BIO:
Dennis Roth grew up in the Chicago suburb of Park Forest and attended the University of Chicago. He went on to the University of Oregon where he earned a Ph.D in cultural anthropology. For the last 21 years he has been a researcher and writer for several government agencies and has authored books and articles on Asian and environmental history. He became interested in photography in 1987 as a way to illustrate RHYTHM VISION which he had written the previous year. He was "hooked" and has been taking pictures ever since with an old Canon A-1 camera and a 50-mm lens. He uses T-MAX 400 B&W film and prints on multigrade RC paper. Most of his pictures have been taken either in the wooded areas of Reston, VA where he lives, or in the streets of Washington, D.C. where he works. Thanks to Linda Ghelfi for scanning the photos.
