I met Henry on Christmas Eve. He was dressed in a Santa suit with a
walker in hand, ready to share his Christmas spirit for the last time.
Although Henry had been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer for almost a
year, he had continued to live life to the fullest. But after his final
outing on Christmas Eve, Henry's fighting spirit began to give into the
cancer. His final days were spent at home with his family. Although the
household is considered poor, their relationships were rich and their
care extraordinary.
As an outsider watching a life ebb away, I realized that even in the
company of loved ones, death is something that one must venture into alone.
Your surroundings are a factor in how comfortable you are, but ultimately.
each person must accept their fate independently. Henry Bragg lived life
fully, and when he was ready, he accepted his death with dignity.
