Lasker is a sleepy little town in North Carolina. Most telphone operators
have no recollection of it, but ask any old-time country music fan and they
will point you in the direction of music. Years ago Calvin Daugherty gathered
on Friday nights with a few friends in his backyard barn to harmonize, play
the fiddle and have some homespun fun. As word traveled the numbers grew. The
Daugherty barn, now labled the Lasker Grand Ole Opry, calls home every Friday
over a hundred contry music fans, mostly retired, from all over northern North
Carolina and southern Virgina.
